Ind v Eng: India beat England by 5 wickets to win ODI series

India coasted to a five-wicket win in the 4th one-day international against England at Mohali to take an unassailable 3-1 series lead on Wednesday with one match still remaining.

Having been set a target of 258, India were home with 15 balls to spare thanks to brilliant half centuries from Rohit Sharma (83) and Suresh Raina (89 not out).

The pair laid the platform for victory during a breezy 68-run stand for the fourth wicket.

India replied with 258 for 5 in 47.3 overs with Ravindra Jadeja hitting the winning runs.

India were always ahead of the asking rate although James Tredwell threatened to derail the run-chase by picking up the wickets of Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh.

Rohit Sharma set the pace of the innings and flayed the England bowlers after completing his 13th ODI half century.

Raina continued from where Sharma left off adding 55 runs for the fifth wicket with MS Dhoni.

Raina remained unbeaten on 89 off 79 balls with nine boundaries and a six to be adjudged man of the match.

Half centuries by Alistair Cook (76), Kevin Pietersen (76) and Joe Root (57 not out) lifted England to 257 for 7 in their 50 overs after invited to bat first by India in the 4th one-day international at Mohali on Wednesday.

"Rohit (Sharma)-(Suresh) Raina partnership really took things away from us. I don't think the conditions were really in our favour. We put up a pretty good score on this wicket. Joe Root played pleasingly, he moved the ball around well," said England skipper Alistair Cook.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni said: "Overall a very good peformance, more so with the new ball. We didn't let them get off to a quick start. It is a new bowling attack, they will learn a lot with experience."

He praised Sharma's performance.

"We all know Rohit is a gifted cricketer and it was a very good performance from him. He is a natural puller of the ball and once he got to his fifty, he converted it to a big one," added Dhoni.

"Rohit was playing really well, he showed some character in his innings," said Raina after pipping Sharma for the man of the match award.

"I am happy with the innings today, I was told by the management today about the opening role," said Rohit Sharma on his knock.
