India's Olympic gold hope Vijender loses

India's Vijender Singh failed in his bid to claim a second straight Olympic boxing bronze medal on Monday when he lost his middleweight quarter-final.

Vijender became the first Indian to win an Olympic boxing medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing, but the 26-year-old had few answers against Uzbekistan's Abbos Atoev in his 17-13 last eight defeat at London's ExCel Arena.

Having disappointed home fans by failing to reach the final in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Vijender refused to talk to journalists after his defeat with his coach furiously insisting they would appeal the decision.

Atoev now faces Japan's Ryota Murata in Friday's semi-final with Britain's Anthony Ogogo taking on Brazil's Esquiva Falcao in the other last four clash.
