A Dubai Police source has confirmed the tragic death of a woman in the Jumeirah Lake Towers, Cluster X, on April 15, was ruled as suicide.

The tragedy struck at approximately 3.30pm in Tower X1 on Tuesday, when a woman of Eastern European origin plunged to her death from the 18th floor of the building, according to eye witness accounts.

The police source told Emirates 24|7 that there was no suspicious cause to her death, saying: “We received a call in the operations room Monday afternoon from an eyewitness who saw a woman jump from the window of one of the buildings in JLT.

“The woman landed in the balcony of an apartment on the first floor. Authorities were immediately dispatched to the scene, but the woman died on the spot, as a result of hitting her head on the edge of the balcony railing.”

The police source further explained that the victim suffered from “mental disorders and motor impairment.

“On the day, she was alone in her apartment, while her husband and daughter were out. The apartment door was locked from the inside.”

The source added that upon questioning the relatives, the husband confirmed in his testimony that his wife had threatened to commit suicide more than once.

“She allegedly has tried to commit suicide earlier, but failed,” he added.

The pathologist who examined the body also ruled our foul play. He said he has handed over the body to the relatives.

‘It was horrific’

An eye witness who works in a neighbouring supermarket said that it was the screams that first alerted him that something was wrong.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, he said: “It was around 3.30pm in the afternoon and we were inside the supermarket when I heard someone screaming outside.

“When I rushed outside, I saw the security guards running around in confusion screaming that someone had jumped. It was horrific. The lady was in her underclothes and dead.

“Somebody from the security guards immediately called the police and blocked off the area.”

A resident in the neighbouring tower also recounted the scene, adding: “It is horrifying to hear of this death. She was a Russian woman, who was a mother of one child.

“This is all people were talking about downstairs, where the kids go to play.”

The resident further added: “With the spate of high rise deaths in the area, residents have formed a support group now and spoken to the children to make them understand things better and to come and talk to us if they are troubled about anything.”
