Cannes battle begins: Sonam Kapoor trumps Katrina Kaif

Stars would soon descend on the French Riviera for the 68th Cannes International Film Festival.

It's all about fashion at Cannes (movies in the side-lines), where jewellery, couture and make-up bands get their biggest promotional platform.

Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif is all set to give tough competition for the best dressed title to Cannes veteran Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and newly discovered BFF Sonam Kapoor.

L'Oreal announced Katrina will be the first amongst the 3 Bollywood divas to walk the red carpet on May 13; Sonam Kapoor will walk on May 16 and Aishwarya will make her red carpet appearances on May 17 and May 20.

At the press conference held in Mumbai on Saturday (April 25) Sonam and Katrina displayed wonderful bonhomie.

But Sonam Kapoor scored the first goal as the whistle goes off for the Cannes carnival.

Sonam, known more for her fashion streaks than movies, didn't disappoint the fashion gurus.

We sure say she is one of the best-dressed actresses of tinsel town.

With diva attitude Sonam wore a gorgeous Ashi Studio Spring 2015 couture dress. She styled her look with a pulled back bun and matching Manolao Blahniks.

Styled by sister Rhea Kapoor, her off shoulder gown with understated embroidery and asymmetrical hem had a bustle detail at the back.

Its a very hard dress to pull off but Sonam wears it well and we hope to see many more trendsetting appearance on her 5th visit at the Cannes.

If Sonam loves to experiment, Katrina Kaif is equally boring when it comes to dressing up.

The 'Dhoom:3' actress always plays it safe (as her affair with Ranbir Kapoor).

Katrina looks good because she is pretty but did she look any different - NO!

Her side-swept hair kept loose, her slight curls and the floor length gown didn't make us sit up straight.

She picked up a blush pink/nude exquisitely beaded gown by Jenny Packham from the Spring 2014 collection.

The gown matched her skin tone and gave an illusion of her being covered in sparkly beads. The red hair, which she coloured for a movie, against her gown, is a contrast.

Pink lips and earrings by Gehna rounded her look.

The actress is not ready to let go of her doll-like image. But during her Cannes debut Katrina needs to get out of the same mould and not just change into another haute couture grown for the same look.
