Dh1 to Dh34: How much for bottled water?

A majority of UAE resident budget goes towards purchasing bottled drinking water. Whether it’s the large 5-gallon bottles or the smaller 1-litre or 50ml ones, bottled water is an everyday affair in Dubai.

This, even when Dubai Municipality insists that water provided to every household in the emirate is safe to drink, provided the building water tank is cleaned regularly. Despite this reassurance, residents continue to pay for bottled water.

Considering there’s a huge dependence on bottled water, Emirates24|7 decided to trawl the local supermarkets to find out how much people pay to quench their thirst.

From Dh1 to Dh34, prices for bottled water are as varied and as extravagant as you like them to be. Unlike restaurants that might force international bottled water on you, here, the choice is entirely your own.

While the cheapest ones (probably a dirham or lesser) are those of local water brands, the costlier ones are sourced from international waters.

Premier Still Water, priced at Dh33.8 tops our list and can be bought from Provedore market at Sunset Mall in Jumeriah.

Next up is Qvarzia. A 750 ml bottle of water that’s sourced from the springs locked away in the lush Italian Alps is priced at Dh24.

The grocery store at 'Jones the Grocer' stocks the Norwegian water brand VOSS. It is priced at Dh23 for an 800ml bottle. These bottles can even be home delivered in cases of 12 bottles for Dh126.

With a name that resembles a plant, Antipodes water is anything but that. This New Zealand brand is also sold for Dh23 at the same outlet.

Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab also makes water - with an exclusive line for French water producer Evian.

The Evian limited 'Elie Saab' edition is available for Dh19.50 in Lafayette Gourmet. Branded “luxury mineral water” and detailed as “a symbol of purity”, these are packaged in bottles with delicate lace designs.

Tau, a mineral water sourced from the plains of the United Kingdom, is sold for Dh18 for a 750ml at Baker & Spice.

There’s a bottle of water from South Africa custom-made for Organic Foods & Café that’s Dh7 for 750ml.

And, there’s still more stocked in Dubai supermarkets. From sparkling to still, to flavoured, to those sourced from far, far away, water has probably never tasted this good, and found so much variety.
