Dubai's Safa Park catches the Afrique beat

Published

Redeemers Afrique Drum and Dance performed in a community event at Safa Park.

The Dubai-based African group, which cuts across the barrier of nations and tribes, brings together talented men and women to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Africa.

The concept of the event was to break barriers of religion, culture, discrimination, racism – through African Drumming and Dancing.

Why Drumming and Dancing? Africa drums hold a special place in the history of Africa. Drums are almost always an accompaniment for any manner of ceremony- births, passing messages, deaths, marriages- together with a special dance. The vicious sound of many drums pounding together is also a necessary installment to stir up emotions in a battle or war to inspire excitement and passion and bring accomplishment.

The Djembe drum is possibly the most influential and basic of all the Africa drums. Originally, it dates back to 500 AD.
