Dubai Municipality (DM) has confirmed that no information from local or international officials suggest any health risks attached to wearing shoes that light-up as you walk in them, ‘Al Bayan’ newspaper reports.

Dubai Municipality was responding to reports that wearing the shoes resulted in electrical discharges or shocks to the head of the user.

DM stated that there is no truth  to reports that 17 cases were admitted to hospital due to electric charges from these shoes.

The DM said on its official Twitter account that it has been communicating with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and no injuries related to this type of footwear have been reported.

DM, however, emphasised that it is possible to have a specific item with a manufacturing defect in this case and defective products will be withdrawn.

DM also added that children should be monitored and prohibited from playing with the interiors of the shoes.

The municipality also stressed that shoes must be disposed in the event of any damage.
