The parents of a seven-month-old Iraqi boy are appealing for help to send their baby abroad for kidney transplant operation which they say would cost nearly Dh200,000, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Mohammed Yousuf is lying at Fujairah Hospital with high temperature and the specter of losing his life because of kidney failure that requires transplant abroad in the absence of such operations on babies in the UAE.

His parents said they are ready to donate their kidneys for him but that they can not afford the operation costs after his father was sacked from his job because of his continuous absence from work to be with his ailing son.

The parents said Mohammed is their only baby and he was born five years after marriage following treatment of infertility.

“Mohammed is my first and only baby…I had waited for five years to get a baby and now I can not imagine I would lose him…he has become everything in my life,” Umm Mohammed said.

His father Yousuf said he had paid $20,000 for treatment of Mohammed in India, adding that doctors there told him the baby’s only hope is a kidney transplant.

“We are ready to donate our kidneys to our baby but the problem we can not afford the operation’s costs…I appeal for benevolent people to help us so Mohammed can have the operation and live,” Umm Mohammed said.
