The Diwali weekend is finally upon us and like many of the city’s denizens, if you too are spoilt for choice and confused about where to get your fill of festive sweets or simply let down your hair and party hard, Emirates 24|7 is here to guide you through the society maze.

All you have to do is pick the Diwali personality that suits you best and enjoy the weekend with family and friends. Happy festivities.

The expat brat
If you are the American Born Confused Desi or belong in the same class of an expat brat who is an Indian at heart but have a more eclectic taste in music then go no further than Trilogy, Madinat Jumeirah tomorrow night.
Digital presents the return of club legends Norman Jay and Terry Francis, with the former playing under the stars on The Rooftop while the latter will kick it in the Main Room. Meanwhile, DJs Dany Neville and Rone Jaxx will continue to pack the Urban Studio with the sounds of Hip Hop and R&B. From 10pm. Tickets start at Dh130.

The single Indian
Yes, you are single and ready to mingle, but are a true blue Indian at heart. So why not skip the global funk and groove it desi style. Elegante, Royal Ascot Hotel is the place to be at on Thursday night where DJs Hani and Shadow, along with guest DJ Sameer will take to the turntables for all your favourite Asian hits: think “Munni Badnam” and “Zor Ka Jhatka”. From 10pm. Ladies and couples enter free before midnight.

The social butterfly
Ok, so you want your cake and to eat it too. Then we recommend Chi @ The Lodge as the ideal Friday night destination. The Chi Garden will feature UK house specialist Seb Fontaine, with his pulsating music that is guaranteed to get you into the groove. When the mood changes though and its time to cool down (well, maybe not) with a bit of bhangra, then simply head over to Chi’s VIP room for Desire, where DJs Josh and Shadow will put you into the Diwali spirit. Tickets vary.

The alpha (fe)male
It’s Diwali but for you it’s just another Friday night excuse to go out with the mates for some buddy action. But naturally, clubbing really isn’t your thing. So here’s the event that packs a perfect punch: White Collar Fight Night VI.
A chartered surveyor, insurance manager and even a promotions model are swapping their immaculate corporate images for shorts, vests and gloves, for a night of executive boxing action.
A total of 18 contestants – both men and women – will be put to the ultimate test, to throw off boardroom etiquette and follow the rigorous training they have undergone over the past six weeks, to have a swing in the ring with another Dubai executive. Indeed six ladies will represent women in business during three female only bouts. Organised by Dubai-based Transguard Group, the nine boxing bouts will be the culmination of a programme of entertainment held at the Habtoor Grand Hotel and Spa.

The family guy
It’s the Indian festival of lights agreed, but it also highlights the importance of family time and what better way to spend this beautiful day than to take the wife and kids out for a dinner and a movie.
Head to Indego to sample Chef Vineet Bhatia’s culinary masterpieces at Grosvenor House, Dubai. Diners can enjoy a magnificent five-course set vegetarian menu on Friday, priced at just Dh330 per person.
Dishes to savour include achari paneer and pepper biryani. Once you’ve satiated your tastebuds, head over to Grand Cinemas at Ibn Battuta Mall or CineStar Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates to catch the two Bollywood Diwali releases, “Action Replayy”, which had its world premiere in Dubai on Wednesday, along with the third part in the “Golmaal” trilogy. We recommend the former though. Just saying.
