Dubai-based budget carrier flydubai, currently flying to three destinations in India, is keen on flying to more cities across the country, a company spokesperson said.

"We have expressed interest in flying to other airports as we are eager to further expand our network in India,” the spokesperson told ‘Emirates24|7’.

“We will continue to work closely with the Indian authorities to increase the low-cost connectivity between India and the UAE and provide a greater number of affordable flights for all passengers.”

The airline, which currently flies to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Lucknow, may soon add Aurangabad to its list.

Last week, the Times of India reported that flydubai was interested in starting direct flights to Aurangabad provided the airport gets its customs office upgraded.

According to the proposal made by the airline, once the requirement is fulfilled of setting a customs team in place, the airline will start its services in six weeks after its approval.

DG Salve, director of the Aurangabad International Airport, was quoted, saying: "We are following up the issue and waiting for directions from higher authorities."

Flydubai currently has a fleet of 23 brand new Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft and operates to 51 destinations. The airline launched operations to 10 new destinations including to Bucharest, Skopje, Kiev and Sana’a over the past 12 months.
