During Ramadan, Dubai’s nightlife comes alive with families taking on the streets and scouring the souqs.

Over the years, these night markets have become synonymous with Ramadan and residents look forward to them as a precursor to Eid.

Be it food, fashion, fun or art, the night markets have much to offer for family and friends during the festive season.

Several night markets and pop-up markets have been organised this year in Dubai.

We visited two such markets - Ramadan Souq at JBR and Ramadan Night Market at Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Souq at JBR is organised at a smaller scale with 45 local entrepreneurs displaying their creation inside a giant tent.

Prominently camped in the Rimal Cluster (JBR), the tent has been put together only for the souq. But unlike other markets this is the longest running event.

With no entry fee, visitors and residents alike will get an opportunity to shop the night away during Ramadan and Eid at this 24-day market which will run till July 9.

From 7pm to 2am daily, shoppers can look through hand made jewellery, baby products, handcrafted sandals, beautiful abayas, long cover up cape and home decors - there is something for the whole family.

Adorn your hands with henna painting or lose your senses with the pleasant whiff of perfumes. You can also pick some chemical free oil for aromatherapy that can de-stress you or heal your headache within minutes.

If you are all about protecting nature, pick up the bio-degradable jute bags available in heart of the souq.

There are vendors exporting unique items for around the world - wood crafted artefacts, watches, vintage collection are all there for grab.

The souq gives a feeling of community with all the vendors sharing their iftar with one another and literally bringing the cosmopolitan Dubai under one roof. It also promotes small manufacturers and exporters within the local business community.

Emirates 24|7’s next stop was the fifth edition of Ramadan Night Market at Za’abeel Hall 5, Dubai World Trade Centre, which is of a much bigger scale.

The spacious hall has been segregated into different sections for food, play area, gaming, relaxation and shopping.

The 10-day event, which started from June 23 will run till July 2, featuring more than 300 exhibitors and is expecting visitor footfall of over 100,000.

From 8pm to 2am, the market provides a complete family entertainment package for all age groups.

Entry fee for the event is Dh5 each while kids younger than 5 years of age can enter for free.

While shopping remains the biggest draw, the market includes a majlis, henna painting marquee, kids competitions, workshops and daily raffle draw.

Visitors can spot the 'Mystery Man' at the market and can win exciting prizes throughout the night.

The event has always been a paradise for shoppers. The diverse range of products on offer from garments to beauty products, jewellery and accessories, home appliances, toys, handicrafts, automobiles, travel and tourism and much more makes the market a regular feature on Dubai’s calendar.

Indulge your taste buds with mouth-watering array of food items in different stalls.

If all that is not enough the market also offers free health checks. People from all walks of life will manage to find something of their interest in this Ramadan night market .

With less than two weeks to go for Eid, these night markets are the best place to start your festival shopping.
