The British monarch's official London home is worth $1.55 billion (Dh5.69bn) with Antilia, owned by Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, is valued at $1bn on the list of top 10 most expensive homes in the world, according to US website comparecamp.com.

Originally built as a private ‘large townhouse’ for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703, the Buckingham Palace was acquired by King George III 58 years later. The palace features 775 rooms, including 19 state rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff rooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.

Antilia is a 27-storey, 400,000 square feet building considered the first ‘home’ to cross the $1bn value and features six underground parking levels, three helicopter pads and requires 600 staff to run it.

Villa Leopolda, in Cote D'Azure, France, home of Brazilian socialite and philanthropist Lily Safra, is valued at $750 million, taking the third position.

On the fourth position is Four Fairfeild Pond, a 29-bedroom home with its own power plant. It is owned by American investor and businessman Ira Rennert and is valued at $248.5 million.

Owned by Lakshmi Mittal, 18-19 Kensington Place Gardens, London, is valued at $222 million. The home is placed fifth on the list. It has 12 bedrooms, Turkish baths, indoor pool and parking for 20 cars.

Ellison Estate, Woodside, California, owned by Larry Ellison, co-founder and chairman of Oracle, is sixth on the list. Valued at $200 million, the 23-acre compound hosts 10 buildings and a man-made lake.

Seventh on the list, Hearst Castle, San Simeon, California is valued at $191 million with William Randolph Heart’s Trustees being the owners.

The last three spots go to Seven The Pinnacle, Montana, owned by Edra and Tim Blixseth; Kensington Palace Gardens, London, owned by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and 17 Upper Phillimore Gardens, Kensington, London, owned by Ukrainian businesswoman Elena Franchuk. The values are $155 million, $140 million and 128 million, respectively.
