Stunning photos capture Saudi's rarely seen beauty

People who have the impression that Saudi Arabia is a mere vast dead desert dotted with some post-oil modern cities could change their mind when they see pictures shot by a local photographer wandering afield almost daily to hunt for scenes.

Khaled Al Sulaimi earns his living from what he describes as “beautiful and artistic” photographs after he spent years in looking for a job. “I go far away from my village to hunt for rare, beautiful scenes. I spend many days waiting for the sun to set or to rise to take good shots,” he told Sabq daily.

“Finding a good natural scene is not enough. You have to be artistic and experienced.
You should aim your lens towards the target with full feelings and strong mind. A photographer has to be artistic with great imagination.”

Sulaimi said he had taken his latest shots, published in the Arabic language Sabq newspaper, in an area between the desert of Al Qasseem and the nearby Hijaz mountains in central Saudi Arabia.

One photo showed Al Qasseem city at night while another showed the sun is about to set through a gate-like rocky structure.

Another stunning picture showed the sun is almost concealed by two tree trunks which look  like two humans standing opposite to each other as the sun is about to sink behind the horizon.

One photo showed a beautiful yellowish brown sand dune while another was for a small beautiful serene lake surrounded by rocks and palm trees, the images of which are reflected in the water.
