A total of 123 workshops were caught carrying out repair and paint works illegally in the Al Musaffah Industrial Area in Abu Dhabi.

The workshops were caught during the first half of this year as part of inspection campaigns carried out by Abu Dhabi authorities to curb illegal offenses related to vehicle repairs.

The shops allegedly were carrying out works on cars that had been in accident without legal approval from competent authorities.

Captain Talib Mohammad Al Amiri, director of the Peripheral Areas Traffic Investigations Division at the Abu Dhabi Police Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, said complaints were raised against the violating car workshops.

After police investigated the claims, the owners of the workshops were referred to the public prosecution for necessary legal action to be taken.

Al Amiri  warned the owners of industrial workshops not to paint or repair any vehicle without a permit issued by the competent authorities.

Al Amiri called on the workshops owners to report vehicle owners who ask them to repair their cars without legal permits in order to avoid fines for not following traffic rules.

Car workshops in the capital were ordered to move to Musaffah in May 2010.

All businesses relating to vehicles, such as shops providing tyres, car batteries, upholstery, electronics, window tinting and other services and accessories, were ordered to leave the city area of the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Municipality had said the decision was part of a beautification campaign.
