Twenty persons were injured in pile-up accidents between eight cars over Saturday and Sunday, according to Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the Dubai Traffic Police.

Al Mazroui said the first accident happened at 7.30am on Saturday, when three vehicles collided on Sheikh Zayed Road near the World Trade Centre tunnel leading to Karama.

He said that the accident occurred when a person of Serbian nationality driving a Kia model car swerved suddenly in front of a Toyota Prado and collided with it.

After three minutes of the first crash, a mini bus came from behind and hit the second vehicle (Prado) from behind, which led to 14 people being injured.

He added that one of those hurt was seriously injured, three sustained medium injuries while 10 sustained minor injuries.

All the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

Dubai Police has repeatedly warned of the risk of the sudden lane changes, which led to the death of 14 people in the first half of the year.

Colonel Al Mazroui also revealed that another collision between five vehicles occurred late on Sunday on the Dubai-Al Ain road near Al Manama Street exit.

A vehicle collided with the iron barrier followed by successive collisions of four other vehicles, which led to injuring six people with varying injuries.

He reported that, in another accident, a cement-mixer truck was burnt near the Al Nahda area, and that Civil Defence teams intervened to bring the fire under control.
