Car thief flees cops, arrested at airport

A Nigerian, SS, who escaped being caught was arrested the following day while attempting to flee the country, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Along with his accomplice TR, 37, both jobless, they committed a number of car thefts.

On March 24, a Bahraini complained that SAR3,000; Bahraini Dinar60; a portable TV and his ID card were stolen from his car, which he had parked in Naif area.

Investigations revealed that a sharp tool was used to break open the car, which was similar to other car theft complaints police had received.

Police managed to track down SS and TR, and after searching their accommodation confiscated the TV along with other items, reported by others.

During the arrest, SS, managed to escape, leaving behind his shoes.

Police arrested him the following day at the airport while he was attempting to leave the country.

SS told investigators that while roaming around in Naif area at around 2am, they noticed a TV on the car’s back seat.

“We broke the car’s lock using a tool, stole the TV and other belongings,” admitted SS.

The court will reconvene on August 11.
