The General Department of Traffic in Dubai has revealed that 24 new advanced ‘tower-type’ speed radars have been installed. The number of radars in the emirate is now at 538, these include 10 mobile radars and 14 of lasers.

Seven radars have been installed on Al Ittihad Road, and the speed on this road is 100kmph.

These radars photographs the cars from both sides which means that 7 radars are equal to 14, according to  Major General, Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director General of Dubai Traffic Department.

One radar has been installed on Sheikh Zayed Road bringing the total number of radars on this road to 46.

Four have been installed on Al Khail Road, beside the 16 radars that were previously installed.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road has 2 new radars bringing the total number of radars on that road to 29 while another 2 were installed on Dubai-Al Ain Road, Al Zafeen said.

He pointed out that a number of new radars have been installed on the intersections of Al Warqaa, Century Mall, Al Hamriya, Port Said and Al Khail Mall, affirming that within a few days other 14 radars will be installed on some intersections and roads.

The new radars work by laser and have several functions, including detecting drivers who drive behind the yellow lines, in addition to video-recording violations.

More than one violating car can be detected at the same time on different lanes by these new devices, in addition to photographing trucks and heavy duty vehicles.

They also photograph the intersections from all sides, besides monitoring speed limits and those jumping red-signals.
