Gems Education (Global Education Management System), a division of the Varkey Group, a Dubai-based organisation, has announced the allocation of four per cent of its school seats, which is equivalent to 3,000 seats, as endowment for pupils who cannot afford tuition fees.

The group got the Dubai Awqaf and Endowment Sign from the Mohammad Bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy in recognition of its community contribution as an example to be followed by private organisations.

Sunny Varkey, Founder & Chairman of GEMS Education, said: "We are proud to support the community we serve in, and as a private entity, we look forward to strengthening our partnership in promoting the welfare of the community through various initiatives. The announcement of the global Awqaf and Endowment initiative by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has offered a strong platform for the private sector to support the community effectively.

"We have therefore decided to work with the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy and highlight our role in supporting the educational sector through our new endowment. We chose the educational endowment as it is the sector we work in and we are confident of making a positive impact in the community."

Dr. Hamad Al Hammadi, Secretary General of Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy, said: "We are delighted with the prompt response of Gems Education in supporting the initiative by setting aside seats for students. The Dubai Awqaf & Endowment Sign presented to GEMS Education from the Centre highlights their effective role in making a difference to the community."

He added that the website of the Centre, www.MBRgcec.ae welcomes queries from individuals and organisations that are ready to receive the Dubai Awqaf & Endowment Sign.

The Centre will provide consultancy to government and private sector entities in supporting the community through this new initiative.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy will aim to achieve its global vision through empowering Awqaf and Endowments to meet the social needs of the Arab world.
