Ten people were injured, four of them seriously in another early morning accident on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway.

The incident occurred when two transport buses collided close to Al Samha towards Abu Dhabi. Both vehicles were transporting construction workers. While the condition of four of the injured is said to be serious other six are said to have suffered minor injuries.

Abu Dhabi police immediately rushed to the spot and the injured have been admitted to the hospital.

According to a statement released by the Abu Dhabi police, the accident occurred because of reckless driving by one of the drivers.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cause of the accident is because the vehicle was driving too close to the one that it hit. Not leaving sufficient space especially on a fast lane is dangerous and ten people have been injured,” said the statement.

The incident that occurred early on Sunday morning at around 7am resulted in a massive traffic pile-up along the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway.

Queues of vehicles stretching upto several kilometres delayed commuters heading towards the capital.

One of the motorists stuck in traffic told Emirates 24|7 that the police and ambulance rushed to the spot and were trying to clear the place and shift the injured to the hospital.

“The vehicular movement has been completely affected. We are witnessing long queues stretching several kilometres. The traffic is moving at around 5kms per hour,” said Firaz, one of motorists.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Director of the Department of Highways at Abu Dhabi police, rushed to the spot to oversee the rescue and ease the traffic congestion.

Last month, one person was killed and several others were injured on Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway, when 127 cars were involved in an early morning accident. Following the incident, Abu Dhabi police announced that  it is reducing the speed limit on the highway to 140kms per hour.
