London Marathon organizers say a 42-year-old man died after crossing the finish line in Sunday's race.
A statement from organizers said that "although immediate medical attention was provided to the casualty, the fatality was confirmed on his arrival at hospital" and no further information would be made public out of concern for his family.
Sunday's race had a reported 36,000 runners, with the event ranging from elite-level runners to fun-runners and others taking part to raise money for charities.
Italian motorcyclist Emanuele Cassani dies in crash at season opener at Misano
The Italian motorcycling federation says rider Emanuele Cassani has died after being involved in a crash at the Coppa Italia season-opener.
Cassani skidded and was hit by two other riders shortly after the start of his race on Sunday.
The FMI says the 25-year-old Cassani received immediate medical attention but died because of the injuries he sustained.
One of the other riders involved was flown to a hospital but his injuries are not serious.
The incident happened at the Misano circuit named after MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli, who died after a crash at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix.
