7-car pile-up: 3 lanes shut on Emirates Road

Monday morning saw with two separate accidents causing major jams in the early hours.

Reports coming in have confirmed a truck has overturned on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, while the new Emirates Road (old Bypass Road) witnessed a seven car pile-up, which has resulted in three lanes shutting down by authorities, as they attempt to clear the debris.

An eye witness on the scene at 8.45am reported to Emirates 24|7: “I counted 11 cars at the accident, but not sure if all of them are affected. At least two are badly damaged.

“Plus, five police cars are on the scene. It’s pretty bad.”

Commuters reportedly travelling down the old Bypass Road report that the accident is close to the Ras Al Khor exit, with warnings being issued by those stuck in the jam to avoid the highway or expect “hour-long delays”.

Meanwhile, several on micro blogging site Twitter, have also confirmed the location of the overturned truck stating the accident is near “the loop turn at Mirdif, heading into Deira”.

Reports are also coming in of slow moving traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, from the Trade Centre underpass, heading towards Jebel Ali. However, no accident has been reported.
