The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Civil Defence General Command, will be organising the UAE World Firefighter Challenge 2016, in collaboration with the UAE-based 911 Firefighting Group.

This event will take place on March 15-17, 2016, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), and will be co-located with the International Exhibition for Security and National Resilience (ISNR), Abu Dhabi 2016.

"Organising such activities contribute to boosting the efficiency and skills of Civil Defense personnel," said Major General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense General Commander-in-chief.

"They also constitute the perfect opportunity to assess Civil Defence personnel's readiness and preparedness, and to showcase the latest practices and modern techniques used to strengthen awareness, prevention and protection against fires," he said.

He also noted that urban development, the increasing construction of skyscrapers, and the large-scale of industrial facilities established, engender new challenges, in terms of safety, security and fire prevention methods. "This requires our firefighters to remain constantly at a high level of readiness, and to enjoy outstanding skills," he continued.

"Organising this championship would further promote our training plans and improve the readiness of our distinguished personnel in the field of firefighting. We, at the Civil Defence General Command, are keen to leverage the latest technologies and to further qualify our personnel to achieve our ultimate vision and strategy, to maintain the safety and security of our community," Major General Al Marzouqui added.

The UAE Firefighter Challenge is a unique and innovative concept that is supported and supervised by the Civil Defense General Command, and aims to boost and reinforce the skills and competencies of firefighters, and to promote the firefighting sector in the UAE.

"The UAE Firefighting Challenge Championship constitutes the perfect platform to assess and improve the skills, capabilities and readiness of participants. It is also provides an opportunity to spread awareness about the important role played by firefighters and the critical and difficult tasks they undertake in the fight against fires. The championship will also provide participants with new opportunities to achieve new and improved records," said Mohammed Hassan Al Ahmedi, CEO of 911 Firefighting Group, praising the championship.

This initiative aims at highlighting the importance of training and fitness to improve the skills of firefighters, and represents the perfect platform to acquaint the world with the importance and dangerous nature of firefighters' work.

The 911 Fire Fighter Challenge was introduced in the UAE and the GCC region in 2009, and has garnered an unprecedented level of popularity and since then, it has become an annual event.
