Al Futtaim recalls 4,109 Toyota Fortuners

The Ministry of Economy in cooperation with Al Futtaim Motors has recalled 4,109 Toyota Fortuner models made between 2006 and 2008, according to Al Ittihad newspaper.

The recall has come under a maintenance campaign launched to repair a rear-wheel drive issue, Dr Hachim Al Nuaimi, Director, Consumer Protection Department at the ministry, said.

Simon Frith, Managing Director of Al Futtaim Motors released the following statement regarding 2006, 2007 and 2008 model Fortuner vehicles.

“Following communication with Toyota Motor Corporation, we have begun a service campaign on 4109 units of 2006 – 2008 year model Fortuner vehicles.

"Toyota Motor Corporation has informed us that in some of these vehicles the rear propeller shaft installation will require inspection and may require minor adjustment to ensure optimal performance.

"In the interests of delivering the highest standards of Toyota product quality and customer care, we have begun contacting our customers directly for an appointment at our service centers.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank our customers for their patience and understanding.

Al Nuaimi said in a press statement yesterday that agents are obliged to issue advertisement in local newspapers in both Arabic and English, at least twice, about the recall.

The agents also need to make sure consumers know which the target points of sale for the recall are.

The Ministry of Economy is also holding a meeting with car dealerships to discuss consumer complaints regarding replacement of auto parts.
