All passengers disembark from Emirates flight diverted to Lahore

UPDATE: An Emirates airline spokesperson has confirmed all passengers have disembarked from the flight which was diverted to Lahore en route to Islamabad earlier on Monday.

In a statement, an Emirates spokesperson said: "Emirates flight EK612 from Dubai to Islamabad on 23 June 2014 was diverted to Lahore, as directed by the Pakistan authorities.

“As of 1.45pm Dubai time, all passengers have disembarked and are safe.”

The spokesperson further added that they are making alternative arrangements for affected passengers to get them to their destination.

An Emirates airlines flight from Dubai to Islamabad that was diverted to Lahore has landed and is awaiting further clearance.

The flight was scheduled to originally land at the Benazir International Airport in Islamabad at 7.30am.

According to Emirates airlines the flight with over 200 passengers landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore at around 9.30am (local time).

“Emirates flight EK612 from Dubai to Islamabad on June 23, 2014, was diverted to Lahore, as directed by the Pakistan authorities,and landed safely,” Emirates said, adding, “Travelling onboard the flight was Tahirul Qadri, an Islamic scholar, and his delegation.”

“As of 11am Dubai time, some passengers have disembarked and are being looked after by our staff at Lahore airport, while we look for alternative options to get them to their destination,” said an Emirates spokesperson.

“However, Dr Qadri and some passengers remain onboard.  All our crew and passengers onboard are safe. We are in contact with our crew onboard the aircraft, and are liaising with the local authorities," the statement added.
