Big Bus to stop at your bus shelter this summer

Tourists waiting for the Big Bus in Dubai will soon be able to do so in an air-conditioned bus shelter, as the Big Bus Tour company and the Road Transport Authority (RTA) have joined hands in enhancing the tourism infrastructure within the city.

Following the agreement, some 20 odd bus stop poles will be installed marking the Big Bus Tour bus stops in the emirate, and as most of these poles will be placed near an air-conditioned bus shelter, the passenger will be able to wait for the bus in comfort.

Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of Public Transport Agency  (PTA) at the RTA said: “We are happy to support the tourism Industry in Dubai and specifically tourist transportation service providers, by regulating and authorizing the placement of the bus stop poles around the city at the RTA Bus stops.

“This initiative comes to ease operations and provide more consistency and convenience to the tourists and the tourism industry in Dubai on a larger scale, as is the case in other international cities.”

Where the current number of bus stops on a Dubai tour counts 22, all but one stop is on public property and has been accommodated with the pole setup.

Mike Lees, General Manager of Big Bus Tours Middle East said: “This Big Bus Tours bus stop initiative is aimed at enhancing Dubai’s tourism infrastructure, regulating Hop-on, Hop-off bus stops and most of all meeting the expectations of tourists visiting the city.”

The bus stop poles will be set up gradually over the summer, and more bus stops will be added in the future, he added.
