Saudi police saved a driver after his car’s brakes failed while he was moving at 220kmph for a distance of nearly 200km, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Hamoud Al Fuhaiki said he was driving on a motorway towards the northwestern Saudi town of Taima when he no longer could control his vehicle’s speed.
Fuhaiki said he phoned the police, who sent patrols to escort him all the way before entering residential areas in the town.

“I received a phone call from an officer telling me to keep pressing the brakes. They then deployed metal barriers and nails just before I entered town,” he said, quoted by the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq.

“Just two kilometers before I reached town, the brakes started to work again and I managed to bring down the speed before I hit the nails and stopped the car.”
