Police said that two men had chopped off a woman's leg in front of a shop at Dehigasthalawa area in Balangoda (Sri Lanka) and escaped with a piece, 'Divaina' reports.
Balangoda police are on the lookout for the suspects, who were victim's brother and nephew.
The victim, a librarian, has been admitted to the Balangoda Base Hospital with serious wounds and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
On the day of the incident, (on Nove 3) the woman was returning from work when her brother and nephew confronted her.
They then cut her leg and fled from the scene with a piece, investigations reveal.
A team of police officers led by Crimes OIC Shelton Uduwaka of the Balangoda Police headquarters has launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects.
The hospital authorities said if they could find the piece of the leg immediately, they had the chance of performing reconstruction surgery.
