A 15 member gang of Arab, Gulf and Asian nationalities have been nabbed for stealing cars. The gang allegedly stole 63 vehicles as reported by ‘Khaleej Times’.

The Sharjah Police busted this well-organised gang that steals, dismantles and then smuggle these cars out of the country.

Police reported that nine of them were from Pakistan and India while the others were from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Syria and Palestine.

Each member was in charge of a certain task. Two specialised in stealing while the others had to dismantle them, modify the specifications or smuggle and sell them abroad.

“One of the members was an electrician who would ignite the engine of the vehicles they had stolen with no keys and another technician duplicated car keys. One of them worked for an automobile electrical workshop and the other for a key manufacturing shop. It was also found out that many workshops were involved in dismantling the vehicles,” police said.

The suspects stole 63 vehicles, some of which were mortgaged by banks.

The Criminal Investigation Department formed a team to investigate and collect evidences of the stolen vehicles.

The gang had plans to smuggle another bunch of cars and were still in the process of stealing more cars. One of the suspects  was caught red-handed while trying to start a car parked near a shopping mall. Two other suspects were arrested while they were bargaining about the price of another stolen car.

Fourteen of them were arrested in Sharjah while an Omani national who bought and smuggled the stolen cars was arrested in coordination with the Dubai Police.

The gang members confessed of the crime and were referred to the public prosecution.
