Carpenter rapes 80-year-old woman

Colombo: A 45-year-old carpenter who aped an 80-year-old woman has been handed over to the Ella police by the villagers, who tied him to a tree, ‘Lankadeepa’ has reported.

Police said the suspect’s wife had lived for some time in the house where the victim was now living alone.

Initial investigations by the police revealed that when the suspect came in search of his wife to the house, but then raped the victim.

When the victim’s son, who was living in a house adjacent to her home, heard noises coming from his mother’s house, he went to see what was going.

Police said that they could not obtain a statement from the victim as in a serious condition at the Diyatalawa Base Hospital.

Ella Police are conducting further investigations.
