Colombo - The doctors at Mahamodera hospital in Galle have successfully detached twin still-born foetuses from the mouth of a baby girl born at the hospital, ‘Hiru Gossip’ reported.

The baby was born to a woman from Galle on October 26 and the doctors, who had inspected the womb of the pregnant woman, had identified a peculiar attachment on the face of the baby inside the womb and suspecting it for some kind of a cyst had performed a caesarean operation.

The doctors said that the baby’s mouth was wide open and had breathing difficulty and neither could she suckle.

During a 90-minute surgery carried out three days later, the suspected cyst was removed from the mouth of the baby, which was earlier thought to be a Mature Teraroma Syndrome, was later found to be the dead fetuses of twins.

Doctors said that it was not unusual for a foetus to develop joined to a baby inside the mother’s womb, but it was strange to find two immature foetuses inside the mouth of an unborn baby.

Hospital authorities said that the baby is in good health.
