Just days after launching ‘Your Child in Gold’ campaign, which is in its second year, Dubai Municipality kick-started its onsite registration at five locations in Dubai on Tuesday, July 15.

The 10-day onsite registration is being held at Al Mamzar jogging track, Al Khawaneej jogging track Gate No. 3, Safa Park Gate No. 2, Zabeel Park Gate No. 3 and Al Barsha Park main entrance from 9pm onwards.

Talking to Emirates24|7, Walid Al Shaibani, head of DM club and coordinator of the campaign, confirmed that over 6,000 residents have signed up for the weight-loss contest till now.

“This registration will continue till July 24, between 9pm and 12midnight,” he said, adding that the municipality expects 15,000 residents to participate this year. Registration will remain open over the weekend.

The campaign is aimed at educating families about the ill-effects of obesity, and the civic body is hoping the campaign will involve the entire family.

Al Shaibani said residents can log on to www.thedmgold.com, fill out the application form and print it out for the submission. “The first weigh-in will be held today,” he confirmed.

Nutritionists and dieticians will be present at all five locations, and will help determine whether a child is “overweight” or not. Al Shaibani added that there is no age limit on child participants.

The campaign was titled ‘Lose Weight, Win Gold’ last year, and recorded 9,666 registrations, and won gold for 2,648 participants. Syrian-born 28-year-old Ahmad Al Shaikh won the title for losing 26-kg.

The rules will be similar to last year, and participants must lose a minimum of 2-kilos to win a gram of gold for every kilo lost. However, this year, the added incentive goes for family registrations.

“If you register with your children, then each family member will get two grams of gold for every kilo lost. But children have to lose the weight, for the rest of the family to win more gold,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality during the launch.

The campaign runs from July 15 to September 1 this year.
