Criminal cases for speeding in Dubai

Reckless drivers caught speeding will be criminally, Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director General, Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has been quoted as saying.

“A criminal case will be opened against anyone driving his vehicle at 200kmph,” Al Khaleej newspaper reported.

He added that the department will take criminal legal action against reckless drivers and they will be convicted on charges of endangering life.

Major General Al Zafeen pointed out that six major traffic accidents occurred on the roads of Dubai in the past two days.

He added that two persons died, including Dr Ali Numairi, an eminent Emarati and a Jordanian person.

Another four, including an Emarati woman sustained injuries.

Al Zafeen disclosed that the first incident was a run-over case on a service lane on Sheikh Zayed Road, where the victim was seriously injured and was admitted to hospital where he died due to injuries.

The second incident occurred at 6.30pm on Wednesday and was a collision between two vehicles in the Jumeirah Village area.

The third incident occurred at 7.30am on Thursday and was a collision between two vehicles in front of Al Mulla Plaza.

He added that the fourth accident occurred at 8.30pm on Thursday on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road at the exit of the vegetable market.

Al Zafeen said that accident which led to the death of Dr Ali Al Numeiri, occurred at half past nine in the evening last Thursday.

He added the accident occurred at the intersection of City Center and was a collision between a vehicle driven by an Indian, who jumped a red light and the motorcycle of Dr Numeiri.

He explained that on Friday morning, there was a collision between two vehicles on the Mohammed bin Zayed Road and the incident resulted in minor injury to one of the drivers of the vehicles.
