Dh4m in loot, 20 houses burgled: Dubai Police bust gang of 4 – including woman

Dubai Police arrested three men and a woman accused of robbing nearly 20 apartments and villas in the emirate while their owners were on summer holidays abroad, the emirate’s police chief was quoted on Wednesday as saying.

Major General Khamis Al Mazinah said the four, including two brothers and one man from another Gulf country, besides an Arab woman, looted more than Dh4 million from those houses, taking advantage of the absence of their owners.

He said the four managed to enter those villas by jumping over the outer wall before smashing their way into the rooms through the doors and windows.

He said one of them had served a four-year jail term for burglary while his mother was also imprisoned three years for assaulting a policeman with a knife.

He told local newspapers that some of the stolen money and items had been handed back to their owners, but the rest was still with the police as some families had not reported the theft since they had not returned home yet.

“It seems they were taking their time in the absence of those families. We found that some villas were turned upside down while the burglars also used the cars of some victims to transport their loot,” he said.

“They found those car keys inside the villas while searching for valuable items. In one case, they stole two cars to transport two large LCD TV sets to their hideouts before they dumped the two cars in deserted places.”

Major Khalil Al Mansoori, assistant police chief for criminal investigation, said most of the robbed houses are not registered within Dubai’s “house security system”.

He noted that the burgled villas lacked the simplest security measures including cameras.

Major Khalil Al Mansoori added that the four culprits were arrested after strenuous efforts by the police.
