A pack of a million aphrodisiac pills worth Dh150,000 were seized by Dubai Customs as it was being smuggled into the country from India.

The bid to smuggle the banned substance weighing 850kg was foiled at the Dubai International Airport Free Zone, according to a Khaleej Times report.

The cargo was seized under the operation coded ‘Flower Pollen’ last week at the Flower Inspection Section.

The pills, made from Sildenafil, an anti-erectile dysfunction medicine, subjected to manual inspection and samples of the tablets were referred to the Department of Drug Control and Registration at the Ministry of Health.

“The tablets proved to be unregistered and may cause grave health complications, so the pack was transferred to the Legal Affairs Department at the Dubai Customs which ordered re-exportation to the country of origin,” Omar Ahmed Al Muhairi, Senior Manager of Air Cargo Operation Department, was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.

The company which was trying to import the pills have been Dh5,000 for multiple offence of trying to import banned substance as well as importing medicine without permit.

Muhairi said the Dubai Customs spared no efforts in combating prohibited goods and fake medicines. “The prohibited drugs seized at the Air Cargo Department constitute 10 per cent of the total seizures of banned items, spanning narcotics, medicine, as well as restricted and counterfeited goods.”
