Du says its internet service will return to normal by Wednesday, almost six days after the disruptions started.

A statement from the company last night blamed the problem on the partial submarine cable cut of the Flag-Falcon Cable System, operated by Reliance Globalcom.

“Du would like to keep its customers updated on the action being taken. The fault is located around 30 to 45 km from the Flag-Falcon Cable landing station in Dubai. This has resulted in a degradation of internet services across the entire region including the UAE. Around 30 per cent of du’s overall available internet capacity has been affected,” the statement said.

Flag’s Falcon Submarine cable runs 11,859km and connects almost 11 countries from India to Egypt. The $400 million project, has been operational since 2006. No one from Flag was available for comment.

Meanwhile, du said it would like to assure its customers that it has taken immediate action to ease the situation by re-routing its traffic over other available links. “According to the cable operators, internet performance is expected to go back to more normal levels by March 30. Du apologises for any inconveniences caused by the incident and is committed to providing further updates informing its customers of actions being taken to restore capacity performance to normal levels,” its statement added.
