The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has undertaken some changes in Dubai’s driving test - theory - recently.

Expert translators will be used during the examinations for those who do not know the 10 languages that the tests come in.

“This is planned for September 2016,” informed an official at the RTA.

“The remote interpretation service for any other languages that is not included in the 10 languages will use expert translators during the exam,” said Arif Al Malik, Director of Drivers Training & Qualification Department.

The theory test, he added, is now introduced in 7 new languages, taking the total to 10 languages. “This will help many nationalities take the test,” he added.

He informed that the “new hazard perception test was introduced in July 2015 to improve the skill and knowledge of new drivers. This is helps to identify hazardous driving situations.”

Earlier, Emirates 24|7 reported about how the “yard test” will undergo changes. It will be done without having an examiner sit in the test vehicle. This step, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) feels will help boost driver confidence, and therefore, reduce accidents.

Arif Al Malik had said, “The yard test (parallel, garage and angle parking, emergency brake and slope), in the near future, will be a fully automated test without having an examiner (sit) in the test vehicle.

“This will ensure fair and accurate testing. Further, this will prepare the student for ‘solo’ driving, which will boost their confidence when acquiring the driving license and will result in lesser traffic accidents.”

He added, “The system will be the first in the world to use ‘state-of-art technology’ not used elsewhere and vigorously tested to meet high safety standards.”
