Dubai Municipality is continuing a crackdown on unhygienic salons with over 1,241 salons already fined already and the inspection will continue in view of the forthcoming Eid season.

According to Dubai Municipality officials, more than half of the 3,200 salons registered in Dubai have been fined for using shaving and cutting equipment without proper sterilization, and recycling of disposable items.

'Be Aware', a new campaign to improve hygienic standards in salons has been initiated by Dubai Municipality. Until its end on July 2, 2016, inspectors will be going around various salons to ensure that they strictly follow the health and hygienic guidelines from the municipality.

"The campaign will continue until Saturday, July 2, 2016, and the aim of the campaign is to reduce transmission of infectious epidemic diseases between customers and employees working in salons. This will go a long way in reducing the risks of transmission of microbes due to multiple use of salon tools," according to Dubai Municipality officials.

Dubai Municipality officials will continue inspection of salons in Bur Dubai, Deira, various shopping malls, and leaflets containing awareness messages and guidelines will be distributed to various salons between 9am to 11am.

According to the Dubai Municipality rules, the staff working in salons should have occupational health cards, within one month after joining work and within one month after expiry.

Customers can report unhygienic practices at salons on Dubai Municipality’s toll free number 800900.
