Dubai reports heavy abuse of handicap parking

Dubai’s drivers committed 4,793 offences involving parking their cars in spaces assigned for the handicapped, fire engines and other emergency vehicles in the first five months of 2014, according to a police report.

The report described the offences as a “total disregard of the rules and irresponsible behavior” by those motorists who know parking in such places is strictly banned.

In 2013, police also recorded a whopping 7,500 offences involving parking in those places while 48 drivers abused road rules giving priority to emergency vehicles.

“This is a total disregard of the rules and an irresponsible behavior by drivers. We also recorded 48 offences by motorists who failed to give priority to emergency vehicles on the road,” Dubai’s traffic police acting director Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said.

“It is totally unacceptable that drivers block the way of an emergency vehicle because one second could count in an emergency operation to save a human live.”
