About 40 per cent of the calls received and family counseling conducted by Dubai Women's Association are related to marital relationships, according to top official.

Most of the calls are related to the abandonment of the spouse, the marital house, failure of the husband in fulfilling his duties and neglecting the family.

Meanwhile, Al Haai disclosed that about 20 per cent of these families seek counseling for infidelity (mostly by men).

"Also about 15 per cent of the calls and complaints received by the association are related to children and their education; families often suspect their children are taking drugs.”

She highlighted that they also receive many other complaints related to disputes between husband and wife regarding the wife's salary among many others.

Al Hai confirmed that the UAE society is still strong and cohesive, preserving its traditions and customs. However, she warned families from the cons of the modern technology particularly the ones related to TV channels and internet as well as some of the cartoon programs which spread unethical messages in the society.

She explained that majority of the complaints they receive are from women which makes upto 75 per cent of the calls and complaints.

"During the first half of this year, we have dealt with 750 complaints. Among these, 500 consultations were by our hotline, while 75 complaints were through personal interviews. We also conducted 46 consultations through telephone."

She added that the Center received 55 urgent questions pertaining to family relationships and on suspicion of infidelity.

"These cases are very special due to its secrecy and their subjects may not be disclosed due to the principle of confidentiality which we apply in our dealings with the public," she said.

Al Haai pointed out that the message of the Center is to support the family cohesion and solve the marital and family problems and prevent them from worsening.

"The statistics confirm the success of the Centre to prevent divorce by up to 50 per cent of the received complaints and cases."

She added that they help all nationalities, and provide them with consultations. "We receive calls from the UAE as well as abroad, and try our best to save marriages and help all cases."

She added, "We also receive special cases of women visitors whose visit visas has expired and they did not have money for the return ticket. IN some cases the center also extends help to visitors who need some treatment while they do not have health insurance. We contact the concerned authorities such as the Naturalization and Residency Departments also the Ministry of Health in order to solve those problems."

Al Haai also calls on the wives to have faith in their husbands and to be certain of any wrong doings before accusing them of unfaithfulness.
