For the second consecutive year, the UAE, represented by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), has been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), and fourth globally for getting electricity, according to the World Bank’s Doing Business 2015 report.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dewa, dedicated the achievement to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

"The ranking confirms our nation’s track record of achievements in various fields and underlines its competitiveness and excellence compared to many developed countries around the world.

“Our aim is to contribute to the excellence of the UAE and enhance its competitiveness, in our efforts to achieve the UAE Vision 2021," said Al Tayer.

Dewa has achieved competitive results, which surpassed the best European and American companies in terms of efficiency and reliability.

This is clearly apparent in reducing losses in power transmission and distribution networks to 3.46 per cent compared to 6-7 per cent in Europe and the USA.

Also, water loss in networks reduced to 10.4 per cent compared with 15per cent in North America, achieving leading rates in this field. Dewa achieved the best global results in terms of customer lost minutes per year, which reached 5.62 minutes per customer in comparison with 15 minutes registered by the best electricity companies in the European Union.
