Eida denies rumours of online system failure

The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) has denied rumours about interruption of the online system for filling out forms for identity cards.

Its website had only slowed down at times due to the rush for filling out forms, the authority said.

Also, the system had sometimes failed because some typing centres were trying to fill out a large number of forms using a single device, it said.

Eida said there was a big rush of ID card applicants in the past few days, with more than 2,000 forms (registration and renewal) filled out in just one hour last Saturday.

The authority said it is not true that the identity card and population registration system had been disabled, as claimed by some typing centres. The fact is that some typing centres are unable to deal with the electronic system, it said.

Eida said it had cancelled the electronic form service of some typing centres due to data entry errors.

The authority said the Emaratak company  for information technology and electronic solutions, which manages the system of filling the registration form for identity cards at the typing offices, is ready to deal with customer complaints and help typing centres if they face any problem with the service.

Meanwhile, 409,000 Emiratis and residents were registered for identity cards in October, out of which 23,000 forms were filled out on Monday, Eida said.
