Emirates airline instructed its Australian passengers that there could be delays at the country’s airports due to a strike by officials.

The Dubai-based carrier said in a statement to Emirates 24l7 that there might be delays in flights to-and-from Australia’s seven airports from today (Monday, August 3).

“Emirates advises passengers arriving into Australia or departing Australian Airports on the morning of Monday, August 3, to expect some delays clearing customs due to planned industrial action by employees of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection which includes members of the Australian Border Force,” an Emirates spokesperson said in the statement.

Australia’s Community and Public Service Union (CPSU) said its members in the Department of Immigration and Border Protection will launch strike to protest against pay cuts and conditions.

CPSU National Secretary Nadine Flood also advised passengers to arrive early and expect delays.

Emirates advised passengers flying out of Australia also to arrive at the airports early because there might be more time needed for customs and immigration clearing counters.

“Emirates recommends passengers departing Australia on their flights on Monday morning to arrive early to allow for extra time for processing through customs. We thank our passengers for their patience during this period,” the spokesperson said.
