The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), has announced new categories of the residents of UAE who are exempted from paying the additional services fees and delay fines stipulated in the ministerial decree Number 25 for 2011.

Emirates ID, in a statement, said that the new categories which are exempted from paying fees against availing additional services cover those with total or partial disability, patients and elderly people (70 years and above) who are unable to travel to the registration centres across the country.

According to the resolution, categories exempted from paying delay fees include diplomatic missions, consuls or persons in charge working for the consulates operating in the country, elderly people (70 years and above) who can’t travel to the registration centres across the country and social security beneficiaries and their sponsored members.

Based on the resolution, the number of categories exempted from delay fees increased to eight as only five were exempted in 2012.

The five categories included the following: people who have stayed outside the country for more than three months or those whose ID cards expired while they were outside the country; people whose ID cards have expired after they were deported following an administrative or judicial decision; a person who has died; people with contagious diseases; people with a total or partial disability; people who could not apply for, or renew ID cards because they were not issued a passport - either a new one or while changing nationality, and delay in registration or renewal of ID cards due to errors made by Emirates ID staff or typing centres.

The authority pointed out that collective requests for exemption submitted by public or private organisations will not be considered.

Emirates ID emphasised that "these exemptions are in line with its keenness to respond to the humanitarian needs of several segments of the community, part of its commitment to social responsibility, its strive to satisfy its customers and put a smile on their faces and in response to several requests it had received in this respect through its various communication channels”.

Additional services

The additional services offered by Emirates ID include mobile registration and the urgent service for registering without a prior appointment for issuing a new/renewal of ID cards for all segments and ages.

Emirates ID called upon customers to regularly check the validity of their ID cards, especially those of children and sponsored members, and urged them to start the renewal process prior to, or within a month from the expiry date in order to avoid delay fees.

"Emirates ID makes sure to send SMSes to its customers notifying them with the expiry date of their ID cards one month in advance," the authority said.

Emirates ID also urged its customers to communicate with it whenever required through its call centre (600530003) which operates 24/7, its social media pages on Facebook and Twitter, via the instant chatting service on its website www.emiratesid.ae, or through its registration centres across the country.
