1,000 drivers win prizes in Dubai Traffic Police's 'white points' contest for 2013

1,000 motorists with no record of traffic rule violations have won various kind of prizes in the ‘white points contest’ run by Dubai Traffic Police last year.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen of Dubai Police said at a news conference on Thursday at 378 winners were Emiratis, 215 Arab expatriates and 407 others.

Prizes include vouchers from Paris Gallery, DMI, Villa Rotana besides mobile phones, airline tickets and other things worth not less than Dh700.

The winner of the grand prize for a Chevrolet Impala car will be declared at a raffle draw on April 21.
Winners will be informed about their prizes via SMS messages on their mobile phones over the next two weeks.

This is the second year of Dubai Traffic Police’s white points system which was launched in 2012. The system allows motorists to win a maximum of 24 white points during a year.  Drivers lose two points if there is any traffic law violation during any month.

To be eligible to avail of the white points contest, the motorist must have a valid driving licence issued in Dubai and must have a roadworthy vehicle registered in the emirate. Also, there must be no registration of any traffic rule violation on his licence or vehicle registration.

Major General Zafeen said the 1,000 prize winners were selected from among 300,000 drivers who maintained a clean record during 2013. The contest was open to drivers of all ages.

39 of the winners belonged to the 26-32 years age group, 355 to the 33-40 age group and 332 to the over 40 age group.
204 of the winners were Indian nationals, 34 Pakistanis, 71 Egyptians, six Australians, seven Portuguese and 24 British.

400 of the winners were women.
