1 dead, 17 hurt in weekend accidents

One person was killed and 17 others were injured in a spate of traffic accidents during the weekend in Dubai.

At least 17 major accidents took place during the weekend, Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Traffic Police said.

A resident was run over on Al Maktoum bridge. Among the 17 injured, one was a young Asian child who was seriously injured after being run over by a speeding car in Al Badya area.

Colonel Al Mazroui, said that the main reason behind the accidents were over-speeding, lack of attention and neglect of drivers.
