10 died, 94 hurt on UAE roads in Eid holidays

Ten people died and 94 others sustained minor, minor and serious injuries in traffic accidents during Eid Al Adha holidays in the UAE.

The total number of road accidents that happened during this year’s Eid holidays came to 55; including 34 collisions, 11 run-over accidents, seven crashes, and three miscellaneous accidents, resulting in 10 deaths and injuries to 94 people, according to Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior.

Statistics also revealed that the number of traffic-related deaths during Eid decreased by four, with 14 deaths last year compared with the same period this year, despite the slight increase in the number of traffic accidents this year.

Lack of attention was the key reason behind the holidays’ traffic accidents that led to 12 accidents. Sudden swerve ranked second leading to eight deaths, followed by failure to leave sufficient distance between vehicles, which led to five deaths.

According to statistics, sudden swerve was the key reason behind the holidays’ traffic accidents that led to 14 deaths. Misjudgment of road users ranked second leading to two deaths, followed by speeding without taking into account road conditions that caused two deaths; and two miscellaneous deaths.

Neglect and lack of attention was the key reason behind the holidays’ traffic accidents that led to 19 injuries. Sudden swerve ranked second leading to 16 injuries, followed by violating lane discipline that caused 12 injuries; 47 individuals sustained minor, medium and serious injuries for miscellaneous reasons.
