Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Economy Department, inaugurated on Wednesday a social solidarity festival at the Ajman Exhibition Centre, which will see Emirates Global Humanitarian Mobile Hospital providing a set of free preventive, therapeutic and training services for 60 days.

Sheikh Ahmed said the event embodies the aspirations of our wise leadership for promoting volunteerism and its values among all members of community.

Dr Adel Al Shameri, Executive Director of the Emirates Global Humanitarian Mobile Hospital, the medical arm of the Zayed Giving Initiative, said some 100 open heart surgeries will be conducted free to poor cardiac patients in association with a number of government and private entities.

"Being held under the theme 'Social Solidarity is National Responsibility' the festival aims to deliver sustainable community services in areas of health, education, environment, economy and family to all segments of the society, in partnership with the hospital," he added.

He said a field training centre for medical emergency respond, a mobile library and a mobile science and technology centre will be launched during the two-month humanitarian medical mission.

He disclosed that the hospital has performed 33,000 surgeries in the countries it had visited around the world.

The next stop will be Ras Al Khaimah after which it will visit Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Dubai before it returns back to the capital Abu Dhabi.

Health Minister Dr Hanif Hassan said the festival aims to enhance public-private partnership.

"The event fits well into the Ministry of Health's strategic plan and its priorities for training medical cadres so as to  increase their contribution in social voluntary work," the minister added.
