11-year-old girl drowns in Sharjah building swimming pool

Two expats drowned in separate incidents over the weekend in Sharjah, according to media reports.

While an 11- year-old girl drowned swimming in her residential building’s pool in Al Nadha, an elderly Swiss national drowned off Al Khan beach.

The Cameroonian child was found dead in the pool on Friday by Sharjah Police’s rescue team, who had rushed to the site upon receiving information of the incident, reported ‘Al Bayan’.

Investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the incident. Fingerprints have been collected from the site and the body transferred to forensic lab.

The child’s parents as well as residents of the building are being interrogated.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident, an 82-year-old man from Switzerland drowned while swimming off Al Khan beach in Sharjah.

Rescue team retrieved his body, which is also transferred to the forensic lab, to help determine the cause of death.
