118kg drugs seized in Sharjah; 10 of multinational gang held

Six of the 10 drug smugglers arrested by Sharjah Police along with some of the narcotic substances seized.

A huge haul of 118kg of drugs has been made at Port Khalid in Sharjah. Ten people have been arrested.

The arrests were made by Sharjah Police’s Drug Enforcement Administration in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Coast Guard.

Of the narcotics seized, 110kg was hashish and 8kg of opium and crystal.

The arrested people were Gulf, Asian and African nationals, police said.

Police said the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration had received a tip-off that four sailors were planning to smuggle drugs into the UAE through Port Khalid in Sharjah.

The four sailors were first nabbed and the other six were arrested later one after the other.

Brigadier Mohammed Eid Al Mazloom of Sharjah Police said security agencies are always alert to nab people trying to promote drugs among the youth in the UAE.
