Thirteen people, including nine children, were injured after a fire broke out in their neighbour’s apartment in the Butainah area in Sharjah on Monday.
Captain Mansour Al Suwaidi, head of fire stations of Civil Defence told Khaleej Times that the fire was caused due to short circuit of the air conditioner.
The fire completely gutted the contents of one of the rooms in the apartment.
The inmates of the affected apartment were not at home when the mishap occurred.
Officials at the Civil Defense said they received a call about the fire at 1.28pm informing them about the fire.
The fire was doused soon, which prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The injured were rushed to Al Qasimi and Kuwaiti hospitals for treatment.
Power was disconnected at the building which has 42 apartments, as a precautionary measure and all tenants were evacuated for their safety.
